Kitchen Remodel With Sink Looking Into Family Room

This mail service showing you a few before & afters of our kitchen remodel is going to exist brief as far as words go. Not considering there isn't plenty to say, but because in that location is so much to say! And so we'll exist breaking EVERYTHING most the kitchen downwardly later, into a series of simpler articles.

Why were we forced to remodel our kitchen? This was a surprise remodel that got sprung on us and had to be done much sooner than we planned to practise it!

For now, we'd love to prove you guys a few of our favorite pictures of what our fixer upper's kitchen used to look like—and what information technology looks similar today!

KITCHEN REMODEL Earlier & AFTERS

#ane: View from the Fireplace Room.

Watch out, because an entire wall is going to disappear before your very optics!

What changed:

  1. Removed ceiling soffits.
  2. Removed wall between kitchen and the Great Room.
  3. Moved fridge location.
  4. Extended kitchen footprint towards the Fireplace Room side as well as the Slap-up Room side.
  5. Added two kitchen islands.
  6. Added all new cabinetry.
  7. Replaced appliances.

What didn't change:

  1. Sink location.
  2. Stove location.
  3. Double ovens location.
  4. The pantry.

Nosotros too intentionally chose white for the kitchen. Why? See the answer hither!

KITCHEN REMODEL Before & AFTERS

#ii: Removing the wall.

By removing the wall where the fridge was located, we were able to open up our kitchen upwardly into the Great Room. This also created a more open feel around the sink area and allowed us to add a second kitchen island.

#3: Extension towards the Nifty Room.

This is the view from the Smashing Room towards the kitchen. (The wall view you only saw in #2 is on the other side of this wall.)

By removing the wall during our kitchen remodel, we were able to not simplyextend the kitchen by 16 square feet, just nosotros were too able to add together a second isle! (Not to mention completely changing the await of our entire downstairs!)

#iv: Extension towards Fireplace Room.

If you took our "before" bout of the downstairs, y'all'll remember that this is the hallway coming from our garage into the kitchen.

Here we

  1. Removed kitchen nook dining area (we only wanted 1 principal dining expanse) and window.
  2. Relocated fridge to dorsum wall.
  3. Added upper chiffonier storage.
  4. Extended kitchen isle surface area into open infinite between the kitchen and the fireplace room.

The amount of kitchen storage nosotros have now is ALMOST UNBELIEVABLE. We have heaps of kitchen stuff and yet we still have empty drawers and cabinets left over! (We'll go into allllllllll the kitchen storage, drawers, and arrangement some other time. You know nosotros'll have tons to show you in that location!)

#5: Stove surface area.

We wanted a cleaner await here—without all the upper cabinets. I know, I know…to some of you information technology may audio counter-intuitive to remove storage, just trust usa. We maximized so much of the kitchen space and the drawer interiors that the storage potential was almost unlimited! Just wait…we'll show y'all soon. (I'm speaking in my soothing voice now and petting your shoulder in my nigh friendly way…can you feel information technology? Can you hear it? Good!) Trust Matt and Jess. We wouldn't steer you wrong!

Admittedly, it was a claiming to piece of work with this stove space since we couldn't have out the walls to either side of it. (There's the hallway to the left and the pantry to the right.) Nosotros were quite limited in our options. If you go back and wait at the overall earlier & afters, you'll see there wasn't whatever other identify to put the stove.

  • We couldn't put information technology where the sink was—we wanted to leave that large gorgeous window to the exterior there!
  • We couldn't put it in the centre of this wall considering the pantry is at that place (and the just reason nosotros're able to have the walk-in pantry is because it goes under the stairs—and we are Not moving those!).
  • We didn't want to put it on the island countertops. Ruin all that glorious, luxurious open island space with a stove in the middle? Non for the states!

Sometimes in a kitchen remodel, you lot just gotta work with what yous take. (It likewise helped keep our budget lower because we didn't have to move gas lines and venting! Woo-hoo!)

KITCHEN REMODEL BEFORE & AFTERS

#6: Sink area.

This is one of the few things in the kitchen which did not change location. We left all our sink and dishwasher plumbing essentially in the same place.

The biggest change we did brand here was to replace that old 1980s window with a large, clear, seamless picture window higher up the sink, looking out to the backyard and the new pool!

Before we get, I do want to describe your attention to the shade in a higher place the picture window above our sink:

kitchen sink with roman shade and white cabinets
  1. You lot knew I was gonna want something island-y.
  2. I also did Not want something with cords that would hang down into my dishwashing/drying area.
  3. My answers were found in a cordless roman shade from Home Depot that's easy to use (even if I practice take to stand up a fiddling on my tippy-toes to attain it, but Matt doesn't, and not having the cords hanging down is worth it to me).

At that place! I summed that up in iii points. Aren't you lot proud of me? I could have rambled about my Kitchen Sink Windowshade Dear for paragraphs and paragraphs…
